1. Biggest ever AirAsia KL Junior League sign up

In 2020 the AirAsia KL Junior League saw a combined 294 teams register for Seasons A and B! This is the highest number of registrations the Junior League has seen in its 11 season history.

2. The launch of AirAsia KL Junior League Mobile App

The official AirAsia KL Junior League mobile app went live in both the App Store and Google Play Store in January 2020 and has now had over 5,500 downloads.

3. Malaysia’s largest youth tournament

Our flagship 7-a-side competition, the KL Cup, saw 122 teams compete across 2 days just before the pandemic took hold of Malaysia.

Though participation dropped slightly as some teams were unable to travel, the tournament still saw entries from teams across Malaysia, Singapore and Indonesia as well as an appearance from former England Number 1 David James!

4. Goal and Save of the Season

Launched midway through the opening AirAsia KL Junior League season in 2020, the inaugural Goal of Season competition drew over 3,000 votes!

For Season B we teamed up with Boost Juice Bars to include a Save of the Season category and to offer incredible prizes like free Boost for a year!

 5. Live Streaming for parents and fans at home

In August the AirAsia KL Junior League went live with games being streamed as they happened! The live streaming meant parents who were no longer allowed into match venues due to social distancing rules could watch games from the safety and comfort of their homes.

6. Divisions to suit all ages and abilities

2020 saw a range of new age groups added to the AirAsia KL Junior League including categories for Under 7s, Under 9s, Under 11s, Under 18s and even a 5-a-side parents league! We’re looking forward to enable more children to play at a suitable level in 2021 and beyond.

 7. Virtual football competitions

During the first lockdown in Malaysia, Maxim Events organised our first ever ‘virtual’ football tournaments with PS4 and Xbox FIFA competitions. The online events saw players representing their clubs from home with live scores and league tables hosted on the AirAsia KL Junior League website.
